Kentucky Fried Chicken and its Corporate Social Responsibility Derrick Love California State University, San Bernardino The organization chosen for analysis is Kentucky Fried Chicken, better known as KFC. It is an American founded fast food restaurant based in Louisville, Kentucky. KFC is an iconic American symbol of the American dream. Harland Sander, better known as the Colonel, founded it. KFC started on the roadsides in Kentucky, during the Great Depression. KFC was one of the first fast food chains to expand internationally, opening outlets in the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Jamaica by the mid-1960s. The increasing role-played by nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and other civil society stakeholders and the negative impact of industrialization on the environment—global warming, pollution, soil erosion, and deforestation. CSR has become an issue in today’s business b ecause some argue that business exist to make profits for its shareholders. Others argue that there needs to be a humane capitalist focus on business where there is a balance of people, plant and profits. The original meaning of business is the trading of goods and services in order to build a prosperous society so all can benefit the consumer and the business. Over time business moved from its original meaning to a profit motive prospective. Under a profit motive prospective business, the only concern is the shareholders and making money, according to Milton Friedman. Externality can be either positive or negative. For example, a merger can lead to higher share prices and bonuses for employees, benefiting shareholders and employees at the two companies merging, This can create wealth and positively impact a community. On the other hand, the merger can drive a competitor out of business, which results in layoffs and reduced wealth, which can hurt a community. KFC is making a major i mpact on its social and environmental footprint around the globe by balancing the 3p’s-
